A dental insurance is an insurance that will provide the person having dental insurance protection with required financial assistance for normal dental care and damage occurred to teeth from accidents, this can be under an individual or group insurance plan. Dental insurance was once a neglected area, but the awareness about importance of dental insurance is increasing alarmingly. In the past dental insurance was treated only as a perquisite provided by the company to its employees, studies (Human Resource Management Survey-1999) show that 83% of the small business provides dental insurance to its employees. It s advisable for every one to go for dental insurance. Dental insurance is more affordable and cheap when compared to other medical insurance. In fact dental insurance costs less than 10% of the cost of the medical coverage. Like every other type of insurance dental insurance also offers a number of plans that you can select from. The major types of dental insurance for employees are discussed below: Direct reimbursement plan This plan works on the amount that the company set aside specially for this purpose. In this plan the employees are reimbursed the money that they have spent for dental care. The most positive aspect of this pan is that it is straight forward and not involves any complex calculations. This plan is widely recommended by American Dental Association. Direct reimbursement plan is considered as most expensive for the employers. Certain small business finds it difficult to go in tune with this plan because of the cost factor involved. Indemnity plans These plans are more feasible. Under this plan the amount of premium is paid to the insurance company and the company in turn pays the amount to the dentists for their treatment. Under this plan the insurance company generally uses UCR (usual, customary, and reasonable) for making payment to dentists. In case if the UCR rate used to pay dentists falls short of dentist s rate, the patient has to make up the shortfall. The insurance coverage under this plan are 100% for preventive measures like cleanings, 80% for basic work like a crown or cap, and 50% for major procedures like oral surgery. Managed care plans These plans are treated as the least expensive. These plans include some cost control measures and are best suited for small business. This plan wants the patients to pay a certain amount as co-payment and the co-payments vary according to the procedure. Preventive procedures are normally performed without a co-payment and advanced procedures are carried out with a higher co-payment. The managed care programs are of two types, they are: a. Preferred Provider Organization (PRO) Program Preferred provider organization program consists of a network of dentists.

Dental plans are most often sponsored by business organizations as part of the employee s benefit scheme. Presently, consumers can choose from a wide variety of plans. Key issues that differentiate the plans include: a) The third party involved in funding the option. These include non-profit dental service corporations, profit-oriented insurence companies and self-funded insurers, which are companies that pay for their employee s dental care. b) Allowance for a dentist of your choice. Open panel gives one freedom of choice regarding dentists, while a closed panel allots a dentist with a prior contract with the specific funding agency. c) Type of service compensation to the dentist. In indemnity plans, the funding agency covers a part of the cost incurred in the treatment, while the rest is borne by the patient. It requires the patients to start a variable dollar payment as premium to the agency for a certain time period before the agency meets with the expenses towards the dental care.

Life - Questions and Answers about Insurance

Medical treatment can be extremely expensive and a purchased individual health insurance plan can help relieve tension to some extent. This is not say that health insurance plans do not cover routine check-ups and common ailments. The point is that even if companies provide group insurance plans, it is better to safeguard yourself for the future. Most plans provide limited coverage and if you decide to opt for the ones with greater benefits, the cost factor might become an issue. This is a situation that calls for utmost discretion and it is for you to perform the balancing act between cost and coverage- you cannot go beyond the budget, but good health too is of utmost importance. Dental insurance is different from health insurance in that the dental problems are neither unpredictable nor catastrophic. Most dental treatment is preventive by the nature and good hygiene, to a large extent, can prove to be a panacea for your dental ailments. That said, dental insurance is cheaper than health insurance. The reason for this again lies in the difference in the seriousness of diseases. Visiting charges to a dentist can prove to be cheaper than the monthly premiums paid for a dental coverage policies. This is why there are fewer companies in the market providing dental insurance as compared to those selling health insurance policies. Most companies provide group dental insurance coverage to their employees as a major perk to keep their employees happy. Because of the large number of employees, the insurance companies are able to provide greater coverage at reduced rates. People with group dental insurance plans do not require additional individual dental coverage. This is not so with health insurance. Even if the company provides medical coverage, buying individual health insurance is a safer option that will prove beneficial in the long run. If you are a self-employed person and have had the misfortune of visiting a dentist, you will immediately realize the importance of buying individual dental insurance coverage. The same also holds true for people whose companies do not provide group plan coverage for dental insurance. If you have group dental insurance, then there is no need for buying individual dental insurance.

Auto - Questions and Answers about Insurance

This is an opportunity to lower your premiums, because if you can agree to a high excess, then the insurance company knows it won’t have to pay out as much if you need to make a claim. It’s one of the few sure fire ways of saving a few pounds on a car insurance policy, but you may not be offered the choice, it depends on individual insurers. The garage won’t give my repaired car back until I give them a cheque for the excess is this what usually happens? This is completely normal, and you will have to pay and then get the money back from the third party insurer. Always give the car a good once over to ensure that the repairs have been satisfactorily completed. You also need to keep the receipt to get the excess back from the insurer, and just in case they dispute the charges, get a copy of the repair schedule so the insurer can see exactly what work was completed on your vehicle. If you are classified as a high-risk driver, finding car insurance can be quite a hassle. Some insurance companies will deny insurance to high-risk drivers, while others just choose to charge extremely high premiums. No matter which insurance company you choose, you will most likely end up with a high rate. However, every insurance company is different, so it is important to shop around for the best rates available. There are many different factors that can contribute to a high-risk driver classification. However, your driving record is the most important factor in determining your risk status. If you have been involved in several accidents over the course of a year or within two to three years, these incidents will negatively affect your record even if they were not your fault. Being involved in any accident can deem you a reckless driver with a penchant for getting into dangerous situations. Also, if you have received multiple speeding tickets, you are also increasing your risk of getting into car accidents. You may be labeled a high-risk driver just by the number of speeding tickets you have received. There are also several personal factors that contributed to the high-risk label. Unfortunately, many of these factors are beyond your control. Men are typically deemed a higher risk than women, and those who live in the city are considered higher risk than those who live in the country. If you are a city dweller, you will probably pay higher car insurance premiums than if you live in the suburbs or in a rural area. Also, drivers with newer cars are charged higher premiums than those with older automobiles. Unfortunately, even your credit history can affect your car insurance rating.

Lessons Learned: Those of us not effected by these disasters can learn a few lessons about coping with future disasters from the thousands of policyholders that are still waiting to get their claims paid. As soon as possible, take steps to prevent further damage to your home if possible: such as covering the roof with a tarp if possible. You can hire a contractor if you can find one, as that would be safer for most of us than climbing on our roofs. Hold off making any repairs until you see or talk to an adjuster first. Plus, keep your receipts, as you ll need them to prove expenses that can be re-imbursed later. You can generally expect your homeowners insurence to help pay for additional living expenses for up to 12-24 months while your home is being repaired. But, homeowners insurence usually pays only after they verify you have a legitimate claim. After Katrina, many insurers made an exception, automatically distributing enough to cover two weeks worth of additional living expense to anyone in an area subject to mandatory evacuation. Some companies even gave small advances on contents under the personal property part of their homeowners insurence policies. If you have to wait to get your check, it helps to have cash that is easily accessible in a bank account or money market fund. Stashing cash at home isn t a great idea because if your home burns down and you weren t able to get to your cash, most homeowners insurence policies only cover $100-$200 in cash whether it is stolen or burned up in a fire.
