Health - Questions and Answers about Insurance

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

We all need health insurance just in case something should arise. For example, have you ever broken your arm, gotten severely sick, or even had a stomach ulcer? Well, chances are you may never suffer from any of these afflictions; but how can you know for sure? This is where life and health insurance come in handy. The fact is, the future is rather unpredictable and we simply have to prepare ourselves for the worst. Recently my wife and I invested in quality life and health insurance plans. We both want to be prepared just in case something should occur. Life insurance is essential if you have a family. If something were to happen to me, I would know that my wife and children would be taken care of. It’s truly that simple. Imagine you were in a car accident. We all know that this can and does happen every day. Well what would your spouse or family do to get by without your income? Would they be in debt up to their eyeballs? This is something to take seriously. We all want our families to be safe from harm. I took out a life and health insurance policy that covers this dilemma. Now, if I suddenly get sick and have to be hospitalized, I don’t have to worry about the enormous bills and how to pay them. In addition, if I met my demise at a premature date, my wife would be taken care of. With life and health insurance you basically erase that uneasy feeling of, what if. Sure, it’s not extremely likely that you will be unable to ever work again starting tomorrow, but what if it happened? Do you have a decent life and health insurance policy to kick in if it does? After exploring the many life and health insurance policies available today, my wife and I were able to find one that suited our needs and income. With our current life and health insurance policy we can easily afford the monthly payments. The truth is that life and health insurance are a crucial part of life these days. While none of us care to imagine the worst, it is always prudent to be prepared in the best possible way.

Life - Questions and Answers about Insurance

This is an opportunity to lower your premiums, because if you can agree to a high excess, then the insurance company knows it won’t have to pay out as much if you need to make a claim. It’s one of the few sure fire ways of saving a few pounds on a car insurance policy, but you may not be offered the choice, it depends on individual insurers. The garage won’t give my repaired car back until I give them a cheque for the excess is this what usually happens? This is completely normal, and you will have to pay and then get the money back from the third party insurer. Always give the car a good once over to ensure that the repairs have been satisfactorily completed. You also need to keep the receipt to get the excess back from the insurer, and just in case they dispute the charges, get a copy of the repair schedule so the insurer can see exactly what work was completed on your vehicle. If you are classified as a high-risk driver, finding car insurance can be quite a hassle. Some insurance companies will deny insurance to high-risk drivers, while others just choose to charge extremely high premiums. No matter which insurance company you choose, you will most likely end up with a high rate. However, every insurance company is different, so it is important to shop around for the best rates available. There are many different factors that can contribute to a high-risk driver classification. However, your driving record is the most important factor in determining your risk status. If you have been involved in several accidents over the course of a year or within two to three years, these incidents will negatively affect your record even if they were not your fault. Being involved in any accident can deem you a reckless driver with a penchant for getting into dangerous situations. Also, if you have received multiple speeding tickets, you are also increasing your risk of getting into car accidents. You may be labeled a high-risk driver just by the number of speeding tickets you have received. There are also several personal factors that contributed to the high-risk label. Unfortunately, many of these factors are beyond your control. Men are typically deemed a higher risk than women, and those who live in the city are considered higher risk than those who live in the country. If you are a city dweller, you will probably pay higher car insurance premiums than if you live in the suburbs or in a rural area. Also, drivers with newer cars are charged higher premiums than those with older automobiles. Unfortunately, even your credit history can affect your car insurance rating.

There are many companies and options to buy health insurance. Most of the major companies offer a free on line quote. Many of these companies also offer to provide comparisons for various plans within the company and also will compare the price of similar plans to their major competitors. The comparisons usually look at the type of deductible you are willing to pay as well as co-pays. A major flux in price from one plan to the next is whether or not prescription medications are covered or offered at a reduced rate with co-pay. Prescription coverage may not be necessary when you buy health insurance if you or your family members are not prescribed daily medication. The elderly that are more likely to have prescribed medications, have Medicare options to cover this area, so this is not as important of an issue for them when buying supplemental health insurance to pick up where Medicare ends. If you decide to have a price quote done it is important that you fill out what state you reside in when filling out the information for United States Citizens because at this time you can only buy health insurance from providers from the State you reside in. There is a bill in legislation at this time trying to amend this policy; however there is not a great deal of support for it. The state of Massachusetts is trying to pass a law that it be mandatory for all residents of that state to buy health insurance or face penalties, similar to the mandatory laws to have car insurance. The main debate with this type of legislation is what is affordable to one household is not affordable to another. The crisis of millions of Americans without health insurance is costing tax payers millions of dollars annually.

Companies like ours at HometownQuotes.com (yes, I am biased) have given you the ability to get multiple home insurance quotes by filling out a form that takes about five minutes to complete. Also be aware that not all insurance companies are created equal. There are some bad ones out there but most, at worst, are pretty good. This part of your policy pays to fix or reconstruct your home if it is damaged or shattered by fire, hurricane, hail, lightning or other catastrophe listed in your policy. It will not compensate for damage caused by a flood, earthquake or routine wear and tear. When purchasing coverage for the construction of your home, it is vital to buy enough to reconstruct your home. Most standard policies also cover structures that are separate from your home such as a garage, tool shed or porch. Generally, these structures are covered for about 10% of the total of insurance you have on the construction of your house. If you need additional coverage, talk to your insurance agent about purchasing extra insurance. Your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other private stuff are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured catastrophe. Most companies offer coverage for 50% to 70% of the total of insurance you have on the construction of your house. So if you have $100,000 worth of insurance on the construction of your house, you would have between $50,000 to $70,000 worth of coverage for your belongings. The most excellent way to determine if this is enough coverage is to carry out a home inventory. This element of your policy includes off-premises coverage. This means that your stuff are covered anywhere in the world, except if you have decided against off-premises coverage. Some companies limit the amount to 10% of the total of insurance you have for your belongings. You have up to $500 of coverage for illegal use of your credit cards. Costly items like jewellery, furs and silverware are covered, but there are more often than not dollar limits if they are stolen. Generally, you are covered for between $1,000 to $2,000 for all of your jewellery and furs. To assure these items to their full worth, purchase an individual property endorsement and cover the item for its appraised price. Coverage includes accidental disappearance, meaning coverage if you merely lose that item. And there is no deductible.

Underinsured Driver - Underinsured Motorist coverage is the term used when the other vehicle’s policy limit is inadequate to pay for all your damages. Provided you have a Standard Policy, your own insurance company may pay for damages to your vehicle caused by; any person or organization who did not have liability insurance at the time of the accident. Any person or organization who had adequate liability insurance coverage at the time of the accident, but for some reason, the company writing the insurance denies that their policy provides coverage for the loss. Any person or organization who did not carry enough insurance to pay for your damages in full. If you only have a Basic Policy, you do not have any protection if your vehicle is damaged by either an uninsured or underinsured driver. Insurance Company Bad Faith - Anxiety and distress are natural emotions caused when an insurance company refuses to pay. In many circumstances there may be a legitimate reason for the insurer not paying, but there have also been a number of cases where the insurance company s refusal has been considered unreasonable, unfair and in ‘bad faith’. In legal terms, the insurance company has acted in breach of contract. Everyone has to agree to an excess of some kind when getting a car insurance policy it’s the way the system works. Basically it means that if you have an accident and your car needs to be repaired, you will have to pay a set amount towards the bill. If the accident is your fault, you lose the money. If the accident is not your fault, the third party insurer reimburses you for the excess payment. If your car is written off, then your insurance company will deduct your excess from the settlement payment. Things aren’t always that simple however, unfortunately there are a number of drivers on British roads that don’t have any insurance, so the question is, what happens with your claim if you have an accident with an uninsured driver?

Indemnity plans These plans are more feasible. Under this plan the amount of premium is paid to the insurance company and the company in turn pays the amount to the dentists for their treatment. Under this plan the insurance company generally uses UCR (usual, customary, and reasonable) for making payment to dentists. In case if the UCR rate used to pay dentists falls short of dentist s rate, the patient has to make up the shortfall. The insurance coverage under this plan are 100% for preventive measures like cleanings, 80% for basic work like a crown or cap, and 50% for major procedures like oral surgery. So is there any way to avoid the rising cost of home and contents insurence? The first thing you can do is look around for the best deal. Try the Internet for the best deals, because most insurence companies offer a discount, often 10%, for customers that buy online. You will also save if you pay by direct debit. It’s tempting to accept your current insurer’s renewal quote but don’t be fooled the small amount of effort it will take to shop around will pay good dividends. One of the reasons for this is because insurers always offer their best deals to new customers, existing customers are virtually penalised for showing loyalty! Improving your home security is another good way to reduce premiums while giving you essential peace of mind. Neighbourhood watch schemes, external security lighting, a burglar alarm, security locks on windows, and industry-recognised locks on external doors will make a difference. Obviously these things cost money to install, but they pay for themselves in the long run. Protecting Your Asset With The Cheapest Homeowners insurence While the media and Press are always advertising for affordable and cheapest homeowners insurence, it is a difficult task in reality to get one if you don t have the elementary knowledge of homeowners insurence. The most important issue is to know from where to start. Here are some guidelines to look for the cheapest homeowners insurence. How to shop around for cheap home owners insurence? Your search for a cheap home owner insurance does not need a lot of time or numerous phone calls- you can just do it with the help of your PC. While using internet, search for homeowners insurance quote because it is free and at the same time speedy and you don t need to talk to anyone, hence it is time saving. You can use Internet 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. With online homeowners insurance quote you can get discount from your insurer because there is less administration to do for the insurer. So you can get a discount of 10%- 15%. You should collect at least three home insurance quotes to ensure that you find the right policy at the best price. You can get some discount without help of any insurance agent as some home insurance companies provide discount on the basis of your home security system. So by installing home security equipment( from the insurance company s associates) like home video camera, fire alert, burglar alarm, carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector you can get discount up to 10%. Many insurance companies offer you discount if every member of your family is non-smoker because main cause behind home fire is smoking. Age group also plays a role in getting discount. If you belong to 62 or 62+ age group then you can apply for a discount of 10%-12%, as some companies provide discount for senior citizens. While comparing the quotes always keep an eye on coverage offered by the policies and then make the investment . Homeowner insurance is a must, of course, if you own your home. All homeowners realize that, but it’s not always easy to determine the right dollar amount of homeowner insurance you should have for adequate protection.

Renters - Questions and Answers about Insurance

The Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurence is the team company that my parents always used. Maybe because they worked for employers who offered the coverage or maybe as their personal choice. So while I would tend to go with the insurence coverage they felt satisfied with, I would also take into account their other qualifications as a major health care insurence provider for one third of those Americans insured. There are presently 45 million Americans that do not have health insurence. Are you one of them? There are many reasons why people do not buy health insurence. The number one reason and most obvious is the cost. However the cost to you and your family if you do not have insurence and are struck down with a major illness may mean complete bankruptcy. Another leading reason why people do not buy health insurence is when they switch companies and have a pre-existing condition.
